Veganism

Reason and Compassion

If we allow ourselves to be guided by both reason and compassion, the future will be a vegan one. As a vegan, you will be making one of the greatest possible contributions to a better environment, as the meat industry is both environmentally disastrous and a massive waste of resources.

You will also be expressing your solidarity with your fellow human beings. How can we eat meat when we know that 50 million people are dying of hunger, and that ten vegans can live on the grain it takes to produce meat for one meat-eater? The World Watch Institute has called a meat-eating world an “unrealisable dream”. “Nightmare” might be a more apt description…

The provision of animal products is based on killing living beings and depriving them of their freedom - living beings who share our capacity to feel pain and fear. All animals want to live their lives in freedom, and as a vegan you will be saving thousands of your fellow creatures in the course of your lifetime. Becoming vegan is probably the best single thing you can do for animals and for the environment - and for yourself as well. Vegans run a significantly reduced risk of suffering from lifestyle-related illnesses such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

And it isn’t difficult to cut out products that come from the exploitation of animals - vegan sausages and burgers, soya milk and ice cream, egg replacements and vegan cakes are becoming steadily more available. A growing number of people are choosing not to consume products based on violence towards animals - the vegan lifestyle is the lifestyle of the future.
