Fur exhibitions with live animals prohibited

After 15 years of protests from NOAH the live fur animal exhibitions arranged by the fur farmers are finally prohibited. NOAH started demonstration against the exhibitions in 1993 - partly to protest against the exhibition itself and partly to draw attention to fur farming ingeneral. NOAH documented the treatment of animals at the exhibition and showed scared and stressed animals cramped in tiny cages and restrained by metal mouth “closers”.

The demonstrations gained media attention and the fur industry found it increasingly awkward to deal with this exposure. In 2000 the fur farmers association stopped arranging the exhibitions in order to prevent further media attention to their treatment of minks and foxes. However it took eight more years for the prohibition to go through. A lenghty governmental process finally ended this year with change in the fur farming regulation issuing a prohibition. But NOAH continues the fight to prohibit fur farming itself…
